Bondurant Named Coach of the Year In Class 1 NEMO District

A strong run to close out the season helped secure several postseason awards for the Scotland County football team. After a slow start to the season, SCR-I won six of its last seven regular season games capped off by a 7-6 victory over Knox County for the district championship.

The successful season was made even more impressive by the fact that Scotland County had less than half a dozen starters returning to the same positions they had played the previous year. First year coach Brent Bondurant found himself faced with the challenge of rebuilding an offense that had just two returning starters, both on the line. The defense was nearly as big a project with only three players returning to their positions from the previous year.

After an 0-4 start the team made several changes on both sides of the ball. The moves paid off as SCR-I went 6-1 down the stretch, with the lone loss coming to Brookfield. It was this impressive finish that helped earn Bondurant Coach of the Year honors for the Northeast Missouri All-District Class 1.

Regional sportswriters and broadcasters met following the first round of the district playoffs to name the all district teams for northeast Missouri.

Coach Bondurant was not the lone award recipient from Scotland County.

Six Tigers were named to the all district teams on offense. Lineman Michael Lodewegen was a first team selection as was wide receiver Chase Moore.

Named to the second team all-district squad were quarterback Curtis Cochran, running back Joel Myers, receiver Clint Cottrell and lineman Brett Masden.

Masden was the lone Tiger to be named to the first team on defense, earning the honor as a defensive lineman. Eric Long received second team honors at linebacker and Moore was named to the second team as a defensive back.
