Early Filings Have Race Shaping Up For City Council

The filing period officially opened on Christmas Eve and the City of Memphis already has one contested race as two candidates have filed for the west ward alderman position. Incumbent Patty Simerl has refiled for the position. She will be challenged by Lucas Remley.

No one has filed for the east ward alderman position which is currently held by Ron Gardner.

Michele Drummond has refiled for the City Tax Collector.

The filing period will remain open through January 21 at 5:00 p.m. Candidates may file at Memphis City Hall during regular business hours prior to this deadline.

Other offices that will be on the April 2 election ballot include seats on both the Scotland County R-I and Gorin R-III school boards, as well as the governing boards for the Scotland County Health Department, Care Center and Scotland County Memorial Hospital. The City of Gorin will be electing a city clerk as well as one alderman from each ward.
