Scotland County, A Community That Keeps On Giving

Whether it is a benefit or just a fundraiser, Scotland County has proven it is a community that gives to those in need. This holiday season local residents have provided support for fellow residents in their times of need while also digging into the pocketbook to help support projects to make this a better place to live.

A benefit auction was held for the Amos Zimmerman, Jr., family on January 4. A large crowd attended the event at the Memphis V.F.W. that featured a free will dinner and an auction of donated items to help raise money for the family that lost its home in a fire in December.

The community also has began to make donations to the Community Fitness Center via the Neighborhood Assistance Program.

However community support is still needed for a pair of upcoming events.

A benefit auction and soup supper has been scheduled for Kristal and Shawn Phillips of Memphis. Kristal was seriously injured in car accident December 11th. She currently is a patient at the Rusk Rehabilitation Center in Columbia. Her address is Kristal Phillips, 315 Business Loop 70, Columbia, MO 65203.

The event will be held February 1 at the Memphis, V.F.W. The supper will start at 6:00 p.m. with the auction to follow.

Anyone interested in donating to the event can contact Phillip Padgett (660-332-5554), Audrey Spray (660-883-5656), Darlene Swearingen (660-341-3839) or Terri Campbell (660-328-6375) or may drop off items at RPM in Memphis.

Another good cause coming up in Memphis is the soup and pie supper fundraiser being held by the Scotland County Fair Board. The all-you-can-eat dinner will be held January 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will feature a chili cook-off as well. The night will also include several raffles as well as cow-chip bingo.

For more information or to donate a raffle prize contact any fair board member.

All the proceeds for the fundraiser will go toward the construction of the new concession stand and restrooms at the fairgrounds.
