Adair County Sheriff Investigating Murder Of Former Memphis Man

A former Memphis resident was the victim of an apparent homicide according to reports circulating from Adair County law enforcement officials.

The body of Tim Mendenhall, 42, of Kirksville, formerly of Memphis, was found in his residence in rural Adair County. Officers responded to the scene, approximately five miles south of Kirksville at the intersection of Route 3 and Sugar Creek Road, following a call to the Adair County 9-1-1 Center.

According to KTVO Channel 3 of Kirksville, the office of Adair County Prosecutor Mark Williams has announced an arrest has been made. James McFarland, 45, of Kirksville, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Mendenhall. He also faces a charge of armed criminal action after he allegedly struck Mendenhall in the head with an aluminum baseball bat.
