Sheriff's Officers Make DWI Arrests Over Weekend

The Scotland County Sheriff's Department made the county's roads a little safer last weekend by making a pair of arrests for driving while intoxicated.

George M. Melton, 48, of Memphis was arrested March 29 at 9:20 p.m. following a traffic stop. Melton was ticketed with failing to dim headlights when within 500 feet of an oncoming vehicle; driving a motor vehicle without a valid license - third offense; and driving while intoxicated (prior offender).

Melton was released after a 12-hour hold and was assigned a court date of April 29 at 9:00 a.m.

A passenger in the Melton vehicle, Jearl J. Carney, 46, of Memphis, was ticketed for littering on a state right-of-way and was also given an April 29 court date.

The second arrest occurred March 30 at 1:05 a.m. Donald E. Fowler, of Kirksville was arrested by a Scotland County Sheriff's Deputy following a traffic stop.
