Still Time To Enter Teams In Relay For Life

The 2003 Scotland County Relay for Life will be held June 20-21 from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on the Memphis City Square. Organizers have established a goal of $17,000 for the fundraiser for the fight against cancer.

Fundraisers are already underway with stars and moons available for purchase for $1 to be displayed at area merchants.

Luminaries will be sold for $5 and are available from any committee member or team member. The committee is seeking to sell more than 400 luminaries to help light the walking track for the all-night event. The commemorative candles will be lit at 9:00 p.m. along with the reading of "The Empty Table."

Organizers indicated there is still time to get team's together to participate. For more information or to enter a team, contact Diane Tague at 660-282-3486 or Leslie Troutman at 660-465-2253 or any other committee member. The entry deadline for teams will be April 21 to allow adequate time to order shirts. The shirts will also be available for any member of the public. Simply contact any committee member prior to the deadline.

Organizers and team representatives are meeting monthly, on the third Monday of the month, in the basement of the Methodist Church beginning at 7:00 p.m. The next meeting will be April 21st.

"We encourage everyone to mark the Relay on your calendar and for the community to come and support our efforts in raising money for this very important cause, helping in fighting cancer," stated Relay for Life secretary Phyllis Mallett.
