Illinois Woman Seriously Hurt in Crash On 136

A Bellville, IL, woman was seriously injured in a one-vehicle accident in Scotland County Sunday afternoon, April 13.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Claudette M. Kovacevich, 20, was eastbound on Highway 136 five miles east of Memphis when the accident occurred at 4:55 p.m.

Kovacevich's 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier went off the roadway. The driver apparently over-corrected and lost control as the vehicle went off the southside of the highway where it overturned and rolled through a fence before coming to rest on its wheels. Kovacevich was thrown from the vehicle.

She was taken by Scotland County Ambulance Service to Scotland County Memorial Hospital before later being transferred by helicopter to a different facility.

The Scotland County Sheriff's Department, Scotland County Fire and Rescue and the ambulance service all assisted the patrol at the scene. The vehicle was towed. Kovacevich was cited for no seat belt.
