Rutledge Firemen Receive $5,130 Federal Grant

The Rutledge Fire Department will be receiving federal money to help the rural volunteer organization to purchase needed protective gear. In a joint announcement U.S. Congressman Kenny Hulshof and U.S. Senator Jim Talent stated the local department will receive $5,130 in federal funding from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

"This grant will give our dedicated firefighters in Rutledge access to needed equipment, so they have the best protection possible while keeping our homes and businesses safe," said Hulshof.

"Everyday, Missouri fire-fighters put their lives on the line to protect us," Talent said. "It is important that we provide all Missouri first responders with the training, safety equipment and resources they need to do their jobs and protect our citizens. I appreciate Homeland Security Secretary Ridge and Under-secretary Brown for delivering this funding quickly for Rutledge first responders."

The program supports fire departments by providing the tools and resources necessary to protect the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel. It provides one-year grants directly to local fire departments. The Rutledge Fire Department has 12 volunteer firefighters. The grant money is expected to be available to the department in a few weeks.
