Chamber Looking At Funding Ideas For Tourism Brochures

Tourism and how to promote this community to prospective visitors was the main topic when the marketing committee of the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) met last week.

MACC president Jim Nishida-Adams reported that the original run of 500 informational pamphlets had been exhausted in a very short period of time. The tourism brochure had been made available to the public at a number of sites including local motels.

A number of MACC businesses had reported positive feedback from the pamphlet as well as a related business directory also authored by the chamber.

Nishida-Adams asked the committee to consider additional funding options to help fund a second printing of the brochures. He stated that All-States Equipment of Memphis had donated the printing for the first run.

The marketing committee discussed a number of options to fund the printing process to have a minimum of 1,000 additional copies of both pamphlets. MACC may consider some form of fundraiser such as a meal or other community activity. Another option would be to ask member businesses to help with the cost and possibly to dedicate a portion of the annual membership fee for printing costs for the marketing materials.

The group also discussed other methods for marketing the MACC and its members. Advertising and press relations were discussed. Committee members have begun to compile a list of prospective mediums for press releases and advertising to help promote local events that could bring visitors and other business to the community. The group already has received a number of contacts for related media outlets courtesy of Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce director Alisa Kigar.
