MACC Pondering Creation Of Local Arts Council

Do you like the sounds of a Scotland County Arts Council? The Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce hopes so. The local merchant’s group is seeking to create a local arts council to represent area artisans and promote events featuring exhibitors from the community.

“We have a lot of talented people living in this community and we hope the arts council will help promote our local products and further these artists’ careers,” said MACC vice-president Chuck Kigar.

Those interested in forming an arts council are being asked to attend the October MACC meeting on Tuesday night at Java Jitters beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Kigar indicated the chamber would like to use the arts council to create some form of local promotions and events that would feature art exhibits, crafters, entertainers and performers in a celebration of arts which not only would promote the individuals involved but the community as a whole.

One specific idea being considered is a wine and cheese tasting event to be sponsored by the chamber. The program would promote locally made food products and feature art and craft displays as well as performances by entertainers.
