He was baptized in Christ on November 4, 1951, and was a member, elder, and Sunday school teacher at the Bible Grove Christian Church. Richard was the treasurer of the Bible Grove Cemetery Association.

Richard was a Christian, loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed working with the land and his cattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Jack and Larry Kigar, and his grandparents: Fred and Clara Kigar and Albert E. and Daisy Couch.

He is survived by his wife, Norma, of Bible Grove; two sons: Charles Richard Kigar and his wife Debra and James Lee Kigar and his wife, Alisa, all of Bible Grove; a grandson, Cordie Lee Kigar of Bible Grove; two aunts: Fern and Betty Couch of Edina; a sister-in-law, Mildred Wilson of Memphis; two brothers-in-law: Dorsey "Ike" Swearingen of Bible Grove and Henry "Rick" Swearingen and his wife Ester of Springfield, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
