SYLVIA DOROTHY HARBUR
(10/21/1913 - 2/1/2003)



Sylvia Dorothy Harbur, 89, of Kirksville, formerly of Memphis, died Saturday morning, February 1, 2003, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

She was born the daughter of Ben and Leta (Bolter) Priebe on October 21, 1913, near Etna, in Scotland County, MO.

Sylvia married Marion Harbur on March 14, 1943, in Scotland County. He preceded her in death in 1969.

She worked as a homemaker and as a hairdresser.

The highlight of Sylvia's life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending time with her family. She loved flowers and gardening. She was an active Methodist, and loved her church groups, especially the Mary Circle at the Memphis United Methodist Church. Sylvia was a former Vice President of the OATS Bus and a long time member of the Calorie Counter group.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four brothers: Vernon, Orrel H., Lowell, and Harold Priebe.

She is survived by her daughter, Patty and husband Bill Murrell of Kirksville; two brothers: Wesley Priebe of Tucson, AZ and Traverse (Doc) Priebe of Seattle, WA; three grandchildren: Kim and husband John Coffman of Seymour, IN, Billy and wife Denae Murrell of Maryville, MO, and Holly and husband Jimmy Westmoreland of Kirksville; four great grandchildren: Collin and Cecily Coffman and Claire and Cloie Murrell; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2003, in the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Rev. Charles Hammack and Rev. Jim Robinson officiating. Special music was provided by Joan Goosey, organist, and Brooke Garbati, soloist. Serving as pallbearers were Billy Murrell, John Coffman, Jimmy Westmoreland, Tom Priebe, Jim Priebe, and Kenneth Dieterich. Interment was in the Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville, MO. Memorials have been suggested to the Memphis United Methodist Church or to the Kirksville First United Methodist Church. Arrangements were handled by Gerth Funeral Service from their Memphis chapel.
