EDITH MAXINE MASDEN
(9/4/1925 - 3/2/2003)




Edith Maxine Masden, 77, of Kahoka, MO, died March 2, 2003, at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA.

She was born September 4, 1925 in New Cambria, MO, a daughter of Ira Leroy and Elizabeth Belle Thompson Jacobs.

She first married Guy James and together they had three children. She later married Perry P. Masden, Sr. on October 25, 1952, in Macon, MO. They were parents of two children. Perry preceded her in death on March 26, 1987.

Maxine was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Gorin, MO. She had been a resident of Missouri all of her life. Before retirement she had worked at IGA, Swifts on the turkey farm and at the Orbit Inn.

Survivors include two daughters, Alberta McNamar and her husband, Larry of Memphis, MO, and Carolyn Elveston and her husband, James of Naches, MS; three sons, Terry James and his wife, Cinda, Jr. Masden and his wife, Pam, all of Kahoka, MO, and Mark Masden and his wife, Melinda of Gorin, MO; one step-son, Perry Lee Masden and his wife, Diane of Saverna Park, MD; one brother, Robert Jacobs of Odessa, MO; two sisters, Sylvia Shoemaker of Macon, MO and Ethel Slater of Marceline, MO, 22 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, David McNamar and Brian James; two great-grandsons, Ryan McNamar and Joshua McNamar and six siblings, Vera Shoemaker, Harold Jacobs, Pearl Duncan, Ray Jacobs, Dean Leroy Jacobs and Kathleen Cockrum.

Funeral services were held March 5, 2003 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO with Reverend Clayton Peak officiating. Burial was in the Gorin Cemetery. Pallbearers were Edward Masden, Dennis McNamar, Douglas James, Travis Ellison, Kevin James and Brett Masden. Memorials were made to the American Cancer Society, the Clark County Chapter or the American Diabetes Association.
