ROBERT LEON MOBLEY
(1/7/1936 - 5/13/2003)




Robert Leon Mobley, 67, of Downing, MO, died May 13, 2003, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital, Memphis, MO, following a brief illness.

The son of James William and Martha Elizabeth (Spriggs) Mobley, he was born near Lancaster, MO on January 7, 1936.

He was married to Marcia Joyce Tallman on June 21, 1958, and to this union five children were born, William Alan, James Austin, John Robert, Brenda Kay and Lisa Gail.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his eldest son, William Alan and his wife, Marcia Joyce.

Robert grew up in the Lancaster and Downing, MO vicinity, where he graduated from Downing High School. He served four years in the Air Force with three years in Athens, Greece during 1953-1957 as a weather observer. He then attended and graduated from Kirksville State Teachers College in Kirksville, MO. After graduating from college, he moved to St. Louis and worked with the McDonald Douglas Corporation followed by working for Rand Corporation in Santa Monica, CA, then the Livermore Lab at the University of California at Livermore, CA, where he programmed software for NASA. Robert then worked for Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR, where he was a computer scientist in the Weather Department. Robert played golf and loved his computers. He also had rebuilt a 70x30-foot cedar board and batten barn with four horse stalls of his own design.

Robert was united in marriage on November 25, 2001 at Philomath, OR to Nancy (Hinton) Frazier, who survives. Also surviving are his two daughters, Brenda Kay Harmson and husband, Vince of Vancouver, WA and Lisa Gail Elfering and husband, Willie of Monroe, OR; two sons, Dr. James Austin Mobley, PhD and wife, Minerva Fuster Burgos, MD of Wooster, MA and John Robert Mobley and wife, Andra of Stevenson, WA; two step-sons, Don A. Frazier of St. Charles, MO and Craig A Frazier of Warrenton, MO; five grandchildren, Andy and Bryce Harmson, Jenna and Leah Mobley and Samantha Elfering; two sisters, Valeria Dupy of Fort Madison, IA and Susan Arnold of Downing, MO; two brothers, William E. Mobley and wife, Margaret of Downing, MO and Clifford Joe Mobley and wife, Sandra of Hull, GA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held May 16, 2003, at the Lancaster Christian Church with Brent Fleshman, former pastor of the church officiating. Music was provided by organist, Maureen Watkins and soloist, Schelle Cooley. Pallbearers were Vince Harmson, Willie Elfering, Bruce Mobley, Donald Jackson and Kade Jackson. Honorary pallbearers were Scott Duncan, Ralph Mathes, Bryce Tallman, Gordon Ford, Dwight Ayer and Ronald Ayer. Interment was in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, MO. Donations may be made to the Cancer Research Department, Washington Uni-versity, St. Louis, MO.
