DURWARD O. "DUDE" BURTON

Durward O. "Dude" Burton, 89, of New Florence, MO, died June 23, 2003, at the New Florence Nursing and Care Center in New Florence, MO.

Mr. Burton, the son of Orgie and Vinnie (Francis) Burton, he was born November 17, 1913 at Bloomfield, IA.

He was married to Helen Zaerr of Downing, MO on March 14, 1936.

Mr. Burton owned and operated the Burton Stables in New Florence, MO, for over 37 years. He was a breeder and trained horses his whole life and also farmed. He was a member of the New Florence Lions Club, the New Florence Community Club, a life member of the United Professional Horseman Association and the American Saddlebred Futurity of Missouri for over 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.

Surviving are his wife, Helen of New Florence, MO; his two sons, Jackie D. Burton of Auxvasse, MO and Ken Burton and his wife, Deborah of Bay Minette, AL; two daughters, Jane and her husband, Ron Gaus of Quincy, IL and Shirley and her husband, John Allemann of New Florence, MO; two sisters, Helen Plotz of St. Petersburg, FL, and Nedra Utt of Burlington, IA; two brothers, Leo Burton and Boyd Burton, both of Bloomfield, IA; three sisters-in-law, Gladys Burton of Bloomfield, IA, Melrose Burton of Red Oak, TX and Onalee Burton of Dodge City, KS; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several step grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held on June 27, 2003 at the Barker United Methodist Church. Pastor Eloise Marx officiated. Interment was in the Barker Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation. Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO was in charge of arrangements.
