HAROLD AUSTIN CLAPP
(9/9/1922 - 8/5/2003)




Harold Austin Clapp, 80, of LaBelle, MO passed away August 5, 2003, at the Baptist Church in LaBelle, MO.

He was born on September 9, 1922, in the Deer Ridge community north of LaBelle, MO, the son of Albert Austin and Ina Grace Baltzelle Clapp.

On July 27, 1945 in LaBelle, MO he was united in marriage to Roxie Gertrude Hays, and had recently celebrated their 58th anniversary.

Surviving are his wife, Roxie Clapp of LaBelle, MO; two sons, Frederick Clapp and his wife, Julie of Memphis, MO, and Timothy Clapp and his wife, Gina of Macon, MO; one daughter, Jennifer Parsons and husband, Tony of Shelbina, MO; three sisters, Clarabel Odom of Claremont, CA, Lola Hathaway and husband, Chuck of Dallas, TX, Jenella Frissell and husband, Don Hun of Jefferson City, MO; five grandchildren, Adam Clapp, Kristine Parsons, Sarah Parsons, Austin Clapp and Katie Clapp, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Andrew Clapp; and two brothers-in-law, Jack Frissell and Tom Odom.

Harold graduated from the LaBelle High School in 1940 and attended the University of Missouri at Columbia for two years.

Harold lived north of LaBelle, MO, where he was engaged in farming.

He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps from October 28, 1942 to November 24, 1945, obtaining the rank of Staff Sgt. He was a flight engineer and top turret gunner on a B17, participated in the Battle of Central Europe and Rhineland, and flew in eight bombing missions; Halle, Germany on March 31, 1945, Fossburg, Germany on April 3, 1945, Ingolstadt on April 5, 1945, Luneburg, Germany on April 7, 1945, Halberstadt, Germany on April 8, 1945, Roygan, France on April 14, 1945, Solac, France on April 15, 1945, Traumsthein, Germany on April 18, 1945.

Harold was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in LaBelle, a member of the LaBelle American Legion Post #200, past school board member and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Funeral services were held August 9, 2003, at the Coder Funeral Home in LaBelle, MO. The Reverend Charles Jenkins officiated the services. Music was provided by Billie Miller. Burial with full Military Honors were held in the Deer Ridge Cemetery, conducted by LaBelle American Legion Post #200. Casket bearers were Donnie Lay, Neil Lay, Charles Shutts, Keith Lay, Robert Lay, and Kenny Rush. Honorary bearer was John VanMeter. Memorial in memory of Harold Austin Clapp may be made to the First Baptist Church of LaBelle, MO or may be left or mailed to Coder Funeral Home, P.O. Box 151, LaBelle, MO 63447.
