ALBERTA LEE JAMES
(7/15/1934 - 9/4/2003)




Alberta Lee James, 69 of Baring, MO, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2003, at her home near Baring, MO.

The daughter of Audrey and Naomi (Dawson) Gregory, she was born, July 15, 1934, in Adair County.

On June 4, 1952 she was united in marriage to William Harry James and he survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Judith Ann Woods of Memphis, MO, Linda Jean Gray and her husband, Gene of Memphis, MO, and Cindy Lou Brush and her husband, Brian of Memphis, MO; one sister, Lucille Riley of Macon, MO; two brothers, Wayne Gregory and his wife, Vena of Macon, MO, and Donald Gregory and his wife, Donna of Macon, MO; nine grandchildren, Jerry Woods, Barbara Reed, Mark Woods, Kelli Woods, Amanda Gray, Batina Gray and her fiancée, Matt Dodge, Jalisa Gray, Anthony Brush and his wife, Stefanie and Amber Brush; five great- grandchildren; mother-in-law, Irma James of Alexis, IL and several nieces and nephews.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Penny Sue James and two grandsons, James Michael Woods and Travis Lee Woods.

Mrs. James was reared in Adair County and was a graduate of the Greentop High School. She and her husband were engaged in farming from 1952 to 1985 in Adair and Scotland County, MO. In the l980’s, Harry and Alberta became a long distance semi- truck driving team and hauled freight for various companies all over the United States and they enjoyed working together.

She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and especially the times spent with her husband, children, grandchildren and all of her family.

She was a member of the Assembly of God Church at Edina and was in charge of the Senior’s Group JOY, (Just Older Youth).

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 8, 2003, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home at Edina, MO, with Reverend Gerry Bass officiating.

Music was provided by Karen Stone, soloist and Ed Anderson, organist. Vocal selections were “Precious Memories” and “Lord Build Me A Cabin”.

Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery at Memphis, MO. Casket bearers were Jerry Woods, Mark Woods, Anthony Brush, Matt Dodge, Kent Hagerla, Jeff Morrow and Charlie Hamlin.

An expression of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Alberta L. James Memorial Fund. Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box l, Edina, MO 63537.
