CHARLES H. ALDERTON
(1/19/1922 - 10/14/2003)




Charles H. Alderton, 81, of Wyaconda, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.

He was born the son of Daniel and Macia (Speer) Alderton on January 19, 1922, the youngest of nine children.

Charles served his country during World War II as a member of the 791st Field Battalion in the European Theater Operations.

He married the former Marjorie L. Whitehead on December 24, 1950. She survives.

Charles was a truck driver by profession, driving for Morgan Oil Co. and Saucier Trucking and later dispatched for Transport Delivery Company. After retiring in 1987, he dispatched for Knisley Trucking and worked part time for Smith Brothers.

He enjoyed gardening and was very involved with his grandchildren. Charles treasured the time he spent with his family, going to auctions, watching NASCAR races and the rodeo on television.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Lloyd, Ernest, and Wilber; and three sisters: Grace Hottel, Myrtle Scott, and Zella Caldwell.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marjorie; three children, Kathy and her husband Kent Calvert of Wyaconda, Jim and his wife Candy Alderton of Wyaconda, and Jeff and his wife Sue Alderton of Canton; four grandchildren: C.J. and his wife Kellie Alderton of Kirksville, Chris Alderton of St. Charles, Hillary and Caleb Alderton of Canton; a brother, Clayton Alderton of Kahoka; a sister, Edna Mae Kapfer of Mesa, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2003 at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Wyaconda. Officiating the service was Rev. Ernest Deatrick. Memorials are suggested to the family and can be left at or mailed to Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main, Memphis, MO 63555. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Arrangements were handled by Gerth Funeral Service from their Wyaconda chapel.
