LELA MARIE SPEER
(8/16/1912 - 10/14/2003)




Lela Marie (Norman) Speer, 91, passed away October 14, 2003, at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, MO.

She was born August 16, 1912, in Schuyler County, MO, the daughter of Henry and Marietta (Gatts) Norman.

On December 8, 1932, she married Oran L. Speer and to this union three children were born, Oran Dale, Norma Lee and Ellis Gale.

Survivors include one daughter, Norma Lee Garrett and husband, Albert of Bloomfield, IA; one son, Ellis Gale Speer and wife, Charlotte of Downing, MO; nine grandchildren, Debra Johnson, Sheila Parsons and husband, Roger, Gayla Martin and husband, Kevin, Tena Turner and husband, Mickey, Steven Garrett and wife, Roberta, Alvena Haerer and husband, Larry, Dawn Olson and husband, David, Lisa Hugen and husband, Derek and Randy Werner and wife, Marty; 15 great-grandchildren, Travis Gray, William and Taylor Johnson, Aaron Broomhall, Samantha Buckallew, Jessica, Shennen and Zachary Garrett, Heather and Ashley, Justin Haerer, Miranda and Jacob Olson, Hunter and Caleb Werner, punkin seed Hugen and punkin seed Buckallew; and one nephew, Bob Norman and wife, Joan of Bloomfield, IA.

Lela was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oran on December 28, 1986; one sister; one brother; one son, Dale; and one granddaughter, Dalene Speer.

Lela lived most of her life in Schuyler County and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church north of Downing, MO. She enjoyed gardening and quilting. She always said she would rather quilt than eat and she loved playing with her grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on October 18, 2003, at the Downing Baptist Church in Downing, MO with Bob Beeler officiating. Music was provided by pianist, Twila Mathews and soloist, Brenda Aeschliman. Pallbearers were Steve Garrett, Kevin Martin, Larry Haerer, Mickey Turner, Derek Hugen, Roger Parsons, Randy Werner and David Olson. A memorial has been established for the Downing Baptist Church in Downing, MO. Burial was in the Downing City Cemetery in Downing, MO. Final arrangements were entrusted to Norman Funeral Home.
