ROSA LORENE VICE
(4/6/1905 - 12/18/2003)




Rosa Lorene Vice, 98, of Kahoka, formerly of Wyaconda, died Thursday morning, December 18, 2003, at the Keokuk Area Hospital.

She was born the daughter of James and Artie (Raine) Benge on April 6, 1905, in Clark County, Missouri.

Rosa married Carl Vice. He preceded her in death on December 4, 1976.

Rosa was very active in the community. She joined the Fairmont Methodist Church in 1923 and transferred her membership to the Wyaconda United Methodist Church on March 31, 1954.

She especially loved being with her grandchildren.

“She just loved to go,” said her grandson Craig.

Rosa was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America for over 50 years. She and her husband Carl helped to found and were active members in the Wyaconda Senior Center. She helped to initiate the OATS bus program in Clark County and was an active participant, including being a past recipient of the program’s “Volunteer of the Year” Award.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter Wahneta and a son Basil Vice; two sisters and five brothers.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Dema Vice of Donelson, IA; grandchildren, Marsha and husband Jerry Greenstreet of Hillsboro, MO, Debby and husband John Parrish of Palmyra, MO, and Craig and wife Cheryl Vice of Burlington, IA; her brothers, Earl Benge of Coal City, IL, and James Benge of Ottumwa, IA; a sister, Lucille Hooper of Wyaconda; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 21, 2003, at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Wyaconda, with the Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiating. Musicians were Allen and Louise Fitzgerald. Serving as pallbearers were Craig Vice, Larry Alderton, David Alderton, Sr., John Parrish, Jeff Greenstreet, and Jerry Greenstreet. Burial was in the Wyaconda Cemetery, Wyaconda, MO.

Memorials have been suggested to the Wyaconda United Methodist Church or the Wyaconda Senior Center and may be mailed to or left at Gerth Funeral Service, 115 South Main, Memphis, MO 63555.

Arrangements were handled by Gerth Funeral Service from their Wyaconda chapel.
