Indians Shut Down SCR-I In Tourney Opener

Points were few and far between for the Scotland County Tigers as they opened the 31st annual Highland Tournament with a 50-36 loss to Clark County. The Indians defense held SCR-I to just six points in the opening quarter and the Tigers offense never really recovered.

Clint Cottrell had a couple buckets to open the game with the lone remaining score of the period coming from Nick Oldham.

However the Tigers defense kept SCR-I in the contest early on as Clark County led just 10-6 after one period of play.

Scotland County cut into the deficit in the second period mostly at the free throw line. The Tigers hit seven of nine from the charity stripe and trailed by just one point, 18-17 at halftime.

The third quarter was another single digit output for the offense, allowing the Indians to add to the margin, leading 30-24 with just eight minutes in the game.

Clark County put the game away at the free throw line, hitting eight of 12 free throws down the stretch to secure the 50-36 win.

Cottrell led Scotland County with eight points. Aaron Dale finished with seven points and Oldham and Chase Moore each had six.

The loss drops Scotland County to 2-6 on the season.
