Free Throw Disparity Dooms SCR-I In Loss To Lady Midgets

Rebecca Consbrock drives the baseline as she tries to get by the defender during the Lady Tigers game January 31 against Putnam County.

A two to one ratio at the free throw line was too much for Scotland County to overcome down the stretch as Putnam County escaped with a 60-52 victory over the Lady Tigers January 31 in Memphis.

Putnam County took the lead early and held onto a slim advantage most of the first half.

Ali Fromm kept SCR-I close in the second quarter with seven points but the Lady Tigers still trailed 28-24 at the intermission.

Scotland County made its run in the third period as Ali and Meagan Fromm both hit three pointers to help SCR-I pull ahead 40-39.

But the three-headed scoring attack of Courtnee Ream, Katie Fowler and Shay Williams proved too much for the Lady Tigers to stop on defense.

Williams scored nine of her team-high 16 points in the fourth period to lead her team to the 60-52 win. Williams did the bulk of her scoring at the free throw line where she was eight of 11. Overall Putnam County made 17 of 25 from the charity stripe. Scotland County shot just 11 free throws, sinking nine.

The Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Ali and Meagan Fromm both with 18 points. Jessie Cotton added six points. Fowler was one point off William's team high with 15 points and Ream finished with 12 points.

Wins over Clark County and Scotland County during the week gave Putnam County a firm hold on the lead in the Tri-Rivers Conference.
