Milan Grabs Lead In Race For Top Seed With Win Over SCR-I
Milan proved it is the team to beat in the upcoming district tournament as the Lady Wildcats defeated Scotland County for the second time this year to likely nail down the top seed in the District Tournament slotted to get underway March 3.
The Lady Tigers did themselves in with 31 turnovers on the night.
"We just seemed out of synch the entire game," stated Coach Andrea Dabney. "The turnovers really hurt us but we also missed a lot of easy shots and simply were not finishing well."
The turnovers took their toll early in the game. SCR-I opened a 7-2 lead to start the game. However by the time the first period ended, Milan was on top 21-11.
The lead remained in double digits at the half before SCR-I made a run in the third period. The Lady Tigers outscored Milan 16-7 in the quarter to pull within three points. Jessie Cotton hit a three pointer and Ali Fromm added a three point play to help SCR-I battle back.
But Milan had all the answers down the stretch and held on for the 55-48 conference victory.
Scotland County dropped to 10-10 on the year and 1-3 in conference play. Meagan Fromm led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 17 points before fouling out. Ali Fromm finished with 14 and Rebecca Consbrock added six points.
