Tigers Settle For Third In Mark Twain Campus Bowl Tourney

Scotland County scored more than 800 points on its way to a third place finish in the Mark Twain High School Quiz Bowl Championship February 22 but it was the 10 points the team didn't score that kept the team from a title.

SCR-I cruised through the opening rounds of the 16-team event. The Tigers beat Glasgow B team 130-10 in the opener as Ryan Hinds scored six toss-ups.

Monroe City was the next victim as Scotland County won easily 125-45 behind four toss-ups from Michael Lodewegen and two each from Hinds, Jason Findling and Jennifer Crawford

The Glasgow A team gave SCR-I a little better game but the results were the same, as Scotland County prevailed 135-70.

The Tigers rode the three big wins to a second seed in the finals bracket. QND was ranked #1 in the double-elimination bracket of eight teams.

Scotland County sent Palmyra to the consolation side, dispatching the Panthers by a final score of 115-50 behind another strong game from Lodewegen.

The title run came to an end in the semifinals. The Tigers tied the game at 120-120 on the final question but Hannibal answered the final bonus on question 25 to pick up 10 points for the 130-120 win.

Hinds, Crawford and Findling each answered two toss-ups in the loss.

SCR-I rebounded well easily defeating Monroe City 180-45 to bring home the third place trophy. Hinds and Findling each answered four toss-ups in the win.

Hannibal went on to defeat QND in the title game.
