Quiz Bowl Squad Pushes League Record To 5-0 On Season

It wasn't easy but the Scotland County campus bowl team remained perfect in Tri Rivers Conference play with a pair of wins last week.

The Tigers toppled Schuyler County to move to 4-0 on the year in league play. The streak looked like it was in jeopardy early on as the Rams led 135-125 at halftime.

SCR-I answered the challenge in the third period outscoring Schuyler County 8-2 in the toss-up round. That proved to be more than enough cushion as Scotland County held on for the 305-210 win.

Michael Lodewegen led the scoring for SCR-I by answering 10 toss-ups correctly. Ryan Hinds answered seven and Jennifer Crawford and Jason Findling each added two.

The junior high game was a near carbon-copy as Scotland County trailed by the exact same score, 135-125 at halftime. It proved even more dramatic as the Tigers trailed after the third period before pulling away in the fourth period for the 330-220 win.

Loren Billington and Julie Triplett each answered eight toss-ups apiece to lead the team.

North Shelby offered SCR-I a little breathing room two nights later as the Tigers moved to 5-0 in conference play with a 330-160 win on March 26.

Hinds was the top scorer with 90 points. Crawford added 60 points and Lodewegen had 40.

The junior high squad defeated the Raiders 400-250 to make it a clean sweep for Scotland County.

Julie Triplett answered 12 toss-ups to top the scoring. Lance Smith added nine and Billington had two.
