Drummond Leads Tigers To Sixth Place Finish At State Golf Championships

Sixteen teams and more than 120 golfers took part in the Missouri Class 1 Boys Golf Championships May 19-20 at Deer Lake Golf Course in Springfield and five Scotland County R-I golfers were among the state's best.

SCR-I finished sixth overall in the two-day event. The Tigers carded a round of 355 in the opening 36 holes on Monday before following that up with a 359 on Tuesday to finish the championship meet with a final score of 714.

Tipton won the team title with a score of 663. Salisbury (664) was second followed by Thayer (684), Greenwood (685) and Valle Catholic (700) rounding out the top five.

SCR-I just edged out Gallatin by one stroke for the sixth spot. Mound City was just one stroke behind that in eighth with Vandalia also making it a tight race for the top 10 spots with a 718.

Corvin Drummond trimmed three strokes off his opening round to finish the meet with a 163 to finish ninth in the event. The top 10 finish earned him second team all-state honors in Class 1. The junior shot an opening round 83 before closing out on Tuesday with an 80 to move up the leader board.

Aaron Vandergriff won the tournament with a final score of 153. He shot a 77 and followed it up with a 76. The senior from Belle High School was just able to hold off sophomore Gabe George. The Salisbury student came on strong with a final round 74 to finish just one stroke off the lead.

Bubs Walker of Greenwood and Ryan Price of Tipton tied for third. The seniors both shot 157 in the tourney.

Chase Moore finished 34th overall for Scotland County. He carded a 176 after shooting an 88 on both days. Fellow senior Andy Boyer was 59th after finishing with a 185 (92/93).
