Knox County Hands Lady Tigers Defeat In Softball Season Opener

Pitching and defense are the strengths of the Scotland County softball team but someone forgot to tell Knox County that in the season opener as the Eagles pounded out nine hits and took advantage of several SCR-I fielding miscues to defeat the Lady Tigers 7-3 on September 4 in Edina.

Scotland County built an early 2-0 lead. With one out in the third frame, Sara Eggleston doubled. She stole third base and then scored on a passed ball to make the score 1-0.

SCR-I tallied again in the fifth inning. Rebecca Consbrock reached on an error to open the inning. Becky Miller followed with a single before a base hit by Eggleston loaded the bases. Ali Fromm then delivered the RBI single to put the lady Tigers ahead 2-0.

The lead was short lived as Knox County pushed across four runs in the bottom of the frame. They added three more in the sixth for good measure to take the 7-3 victory.

SCR-I tallied one final time in the seventh. Miller collected her second hit on the game. Pinch runner Ashley Ellison was plated by an RBI hit by Valerie Crawford.
