JV Football Team Beats Indians 26-12

The Scotland County junior varsity football team evened its record with a 26-12 win over Clark County September 15. The Tigers are 1-1 after picking up the win in Kahoka.

The Tigers defense continued its stellar play early in the season. SCR-I forced a number of Clark County turnovers, pressured the Indians quarterback all night and basically controlled the game. Linebacker B.J. Houghton returned an interception for a touchdown in the second period to set the tone for the defense.

“That interception gave us the momentum and we never really looked back,” said Coach Nathan Pippert. “The defense played a great game and continued to be a dominant force.”

The team’s offense showed dramatic improvement from the week one loss to South Shelby. The Tigers capitalized on several Clark County turnovers including a pair of long touchdown passes by quarterback Marcus Shalley to receiver Matt Wickert. SCR-I not only passed the ball well but got a solid ground attack from running backs Houghton, Joe Talbert and Zach McBee behind improved play from the offensive line.

“Overall it was a good game” Pippert said. “The Tigers played with a lot of intensity, heart and pride. They wanted to redeem themselves with a victory, and they did just that.”
