Putnam County Scores Early En Route To 4-2 Win Over Lady Tigers

Putnam County wasted little time jumping on top of the SCR-I Lady Tigers in the Tri-Rivers Conference match-up in Memphis September 25.

The Midgets opened the game with a triple and added three more hits in the first inning to pull ahead 2-0 before SCR-I even got a bat in its hand.

The Lady Tigers cut into the deficit in the third inning. Sara Eggleston led off with a single and moved into scoring position on a base hit by Rebecca Consbrock. Ali Fromm then delivered an RBI single to make the score 2-1.

Putnam County put the game away in the fourth frame doing all the damage with two outs. The Midgets loaded the bases with a couple base hits and a hit batter before scoring a pair of runs on a SCR-I fielding error.

SCR-I did make a run at Putnam County in the bottom of the inning. Jessie Cotton led off the inning with a double to rightfield. However she was thrown out at third trying to stretch the play into a triple. That proved costly as Jacqui Drummond followed with a base hit. Jenna Shalley reached on an error before a base hit by Eggleston loaded the bases. Consbrock delivered an RBI infield hit to make the score 4-2. But SCR-I could not push across anymore runs.

Eggleston took the loss on the mound. She went all seven innings allowing six hits. She struck out four and walked none.

The senior hurler was 3-3 at the plate. Consbrock, Drummond and Cotton each contributed two hits a piece.

The loss dropped SCR-I to 9-5 on the year and 2-3 in conference play with league games remaining versus North Shelby and Schuyler County.
