Injuries Slowing Down JV Girls Hoops Squad

Injuries have made for a short bench for the Scotland County junior varsity girls basketball team and that has translated to an 0-2 start to the season.

“Injuries are not helping us at all right now,” stated coach Josh Smith. “We have two starters out indefinitely and we have some nicks and bangs on a couple of other girls. With only six players healthy enough to be on the floor, fatigue becomes a big factor in our games.”

SCR-I opened the year with a 53-20 loss at Hannibal, November 25. The home team took a 28-12 lead in the first half after a good start for the Lady Tigers in the opening period.

Kayla Ebeling led SCR-I with 10 points and Leslie Duley finished with four points.

Scotland County had a better showing December 1 against Schuyler County but still came out on the wrong end of 49-28 decision.

“Our offense looked a little better than it did against Hannibal,” Smith said. “We had a lot of good shooting opportunities where the shots just didn’t fall.”

Freshman Trisha Harvey led the SCR-I offense with eight points. Laura Duley pitched in with six points. Ebeling and Ashley Ellison each added five points while Lauren Grogan scored four points.
