Late Rally Falls Short In Loss To Putnam County

A big fourth quarter comeback came up a bit short as the host team escaped a semifinal match-up with Scotland County December 12 to win 50-46 and advance to the title match of the Putnam County Tournament.

Scotland County fell behind the Midgets early. Putnam County jumped out to a 15-10 lead in the first quarter as SCR-I managed just three field goals in the opening period.

The SCR-I offense didnít really get going in quarter two either, but the Tigers defense clamped down and helped trim the deficit to 22-19 at intermission.

The home team looked poised to blow the game open in period three with a 16-7 run to boost the advantage to double digits at 38-26 with just eight minutes left to play.

The Tigers made a contest of it in the final quarter. Clint Cottrell and Cody Holt combined for 15 of the Tigers 20 points in the fourth quarter but it wasnít enough as Putnam County held on for the 50-46 win.

Holt led Scotland County with 15 points on the evening. Aaron Dale pitched in with 12 points while Cottrell added nine. Danny Roach had six points and Greg Neagle finished with four as only five Tigers made it into the scorebook.
