Holt Helps Guide Tigers To First Win Of Season

Cody Holt worked his way back into the starting lineup for the Scotland County Tigers and the move paid off. The senior helped lead the Tigers to their first win of the season with a 54-32 victory over Schuyler County in the opening round of the Putnam County Tournament December 9.

Holt scored 12 of his game-high 16 points in the first half when the Tigers put the game away with a 33-7 lead at the intermission.

Thatís not a misprint. The Tigers defense held Schuyler County to just two points in the first period and only seven points in the first 16 minutes of the game.

Clint Cottrell out did the Rams entire first-half scoring performance by himself in the first minutes of the game. The senior put up seven points in the first quarter as SCR-I jumped on top 14-2.

Holt and Aaron Dale hit three pointers to open the second period as the Tigers continued to add to the lead, outscoring the Rams 19-5 in the period to lead by 26-points at the break.

The Tigers post presence continued to dominate in the third quarter. Cottrell, Holt and Greg Neagle each had two buckets a piece in the period as the advantage grew to 49-20.

Schuyler County cut into the deficit a bit in the fourth period but it was academic by that point as Scotland County cruised to the win.

Holt led a trio of Tigers in double digits with 16 points. Cottrell finished with 11 points and Dale had 10.

The victory sent SCR-I (1-3) into the tournament semifinals to face #1 seeded Putnam County.
