Chamber Seeking Slogan For Festival
The Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce has final approval to host the event. The date has been set for May 15th. Now all the group needs is a name for the debut of its proposed arts festival and wine tasting event to be held on the Memphis City Square.
The Chamber announced at the February 10 MACC meeting that it will hold a contest to name the new event. The author of the winning slogan will receive $20 in Memphis Bucks. Deadline for entries is February 24.
In other business at the regular monthly meeting, MACC members discussed the annual customer appreciation pancake breakfast. The group also considered hosting a breakfast at the May 15 arts guild event. Other suggestions included a Chamber-sponsored teen dance that could be held the evening of the arts event. No action was taken on any of the items, with additional discussion planned for next month’s meeting.
MACC president Chuck Kigar announced that representatives of the Clark County Chamber of Commerce would be the featured speakers at the next meeting, which is scheduled for March 9 at 6:00 p.m. at Java Jitters.
Treasurer Emily Mauk reported that 13 chamber membership renewals had been received in January. A special meeting was scheduled for February 24 to update the membership applications and to consider other options for a membership drive.
At the January meeting Kigar had announced that membership dues for 2004 would raise from $35 to $60 a year. The membership will now include a web page for each member at www.scotlandcounty.net. The cost increase will also allow the chamber to expand the publication and distribution of the community tourism and business directories.
The Chamber had considered a Valentine’s Day promotion but a lack of interest from members forced the idea to be tabled until next year.
