McNamar To Be Featured Guest At ACS Cancer Crusade Kickoff
Local cancer survivor Shawn McNamar will be the featured speaker at the Scotland County American Cancer Society Crusade Kickoff to be held March 30 at Keith’s Café.
Shawn, a Scotland County R-I graduate, served three years in the Navy before returning to Missouri. He attended Linn Technical College where he earned a degree in design drafting. He returned to school at Indian Hills where he later received his training as a physical therapist’s assistant.
Shawn works in the physical therapy department at Scotland County Memorial Hospital. He and his wife Janene have three children, Tyler Henstorf and Rebecca and Bailey McNamar.
On March 8, 2001, Shawn was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease. He went through four months of chemotherapy and one month of radiation treatment. On September 24, 2001 he was diagnosed as cancer free and remains cancer free today.
McNamar will discuss his ordeal with the local ACS group that will begin its local fundraising efforts at the dinner meeting. The event is Dutch treat.
