Downing City Board Reaches Agreement With Internet Service

The board of the City of Downing convened on May 17, with Mayor Tami Sabin presiding. Others present were Aldermen Carol Seamster, Dale Poe, Jerry Fry, and Susan Arnold; Carolyn Anderson, Danny Buford, Richard Buford, Junior Arnold, Emma Stroup, David Ruth and Willa Mae Gooden.

Copies of the agenda, minutes of the previous meeting, street maintenance budget and ordinance pertaining to the accumulation of grass, weeds, debris, etc., were given to the board members.

The minutes were approved as written and payment of bills allowed.

Grading, repairs, gravel and dust control are never ending street maintenance projects. Plans are to apply tree sap in early June to keep the dust at a minimum this summer. As always, when an alley needs gravel the city will pay for the gravel and property owners pay for the hauling.

An agreement to allow an attachment to our water tower for telecommunications internet service by Tri-County Technologies has been made. Plans are to have it ready for service in June.

Concerns were voiced about speeding, grass not being mowed, not trimming around the cemetery stones and uncapped wells. Letters will be sent to appropriate persons regarding this.
