MDC Gives $6,000 To Local Fire Departments

The Missouri Conservation Department delivered $6,000 to two local fire departments last week as part of the state’s efforts to aid rural emergency services.

Lonnie Rager, MDC Resource Assistant visited Gorin and Memphis to deliver $3,000 checks to the Scotland County and Gorin fire departments. The funding is made possible through the MDC Forestry Division as matching grants to help fire departments purchase personal protective gear and fire fighting equipment for wildland fires and structure blazes.

The Scotland County Fire Department purchased a ventilation fan, 12 air bottles and 16 personal protection hoods for firemen. The total outlay by the department was $6,069, with MDC matching 50 percent of the cost up to $3,000.

The Gorin Fire Department spent $6,160 on 16 pagers for the volunteer firemen. MDC contributed a $3,000 match for the purchase.

The Missouri Department of Conservation is distributing checks of up to $3,000 to 194 different fire departments across the state, disbursing nearly $380,000 to help fight fires.

The funding is made possible by MDC and the U.S. Forest Service. During the past 22 years more than $3.6 million has been distributed to rural fire departments through the partnership, helping insure the safety of fire fighters while providing better fire fighting equipment.
