Submissions Being Sought For Book About Bible Grove

History would be just that, if it were not for the people that have taken the time to write it down. In an effort to preserve the accounts of Bible Grove and the surrounding area, a number of local historians have begun a drive to publish a book about the region.

The History of Bible Grove and the Surrounding Area will be a hardback book with an anticipated 200 pages of memoirs and recollections about the area. The books are being pre-sold at a cost of $49.99 with all proceeds going to the Bible Grove School, which is featured on the National Register of Historical Places. The money will go into the perpetual fund for upkeep of the school.

The book organizers are asking residents of the region to submit historical articles for the book. Submissions should be between 300 to 500 words. Requested topics are history of the area’s settlers, Civil War, veterans and Indians. The book also is seeking history on schools and churches as well as what life was like during different periods of time. A large portion of the book will be dedicated to family histories. A special section will include tall tales or other humorous notes regarding the area.

“We invite you to submit family stories, memories of school, growing up on a farm, community events, business, church, military service, migration routes of your ancestors, or maybe even a tall tale,” said Don Norton, one of the book’s organizers.

The deadline for submissions will be December 1. All articles will be edited for grammar and spelling but no changes will be made in the content.

“Come help us preserve the past for our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren,” said Al Erwin, who is also working on the project. “”This is your chance to make our community and surrounding area a living history.”

Areas included in the book with Bible Grove will be Mt. Pleasant Township, Pronac, Energy, Coffey, Willmathsville, Hazelville, Unity, Pleasant Retreat and Edinburg.

Submissions may be mailed to Norton at RR 1 Box 32, Baring, MO 63531 or Erwin at 11247 Pleasant Hill Way, Greentop, MO 63546.
