Christmas Bazaar Set For December 4th
The 23rd annual Christmas Bazaar sponsored by Epsilon Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi of Memphis, will be held Saturday, December 4th, at the Scotland County R-I High School from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with free admission.
The Beta Christmas Bazaar is one of the Tri-State’s largest gift shows in the area, with exhibitors from Illinois, Iowa and Missouri. There will be over 140 tables again this year with gift items and homemade goodies from the kitchen.
Along with the old time favorites there will be several new exhibitors this year.
A food stand will be available all day. Doughnuts and coffee will be served in the morning with lunch consisting of hot dogs, chili dogs, chili, ham sandwiches, chips, pie, cake and a variety of drinks.
Santa will be present from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for pictures and a baby-sitting service will be provided again this year by the FBLA. There will be a fee charged for these two services. The FBLA will also be available to help exhibitors load and unload.
Proceeds from the bazaar go for community betterment. Four $300 scholarships making a total of $1200, were given to four seniors, Clint Cottrell, Emily Kiddoo, Nicholas Oldham, and Danielle Shelley; $150 was given for helping families in the community; $25 to OATS Bus; $25 to the Ronald McDonald House; $50 to Brandon Alexander for his trip to Washington, DC for National Youth Leadership on Defense, Intelligence and Diplomacy;
$81 sponsored the Spelling Bee and presented each winner with a dictionary – winners were primary-Emily Ebeling, elementary-Jennifer Gordy, and junior high-Melissa Cotton; $25 donation to Jesse Cotton, Miss Clark County for the Miss Missouri Pageant; $76 for Care Center door decorations, which we do each November, donated money to Debbi Caldwell’s art class;
$25 to Scotland County Care Center for birthday party; $25 to Alpha Epsilon Sigma sorority Halloween Party; $100 to the Scotland County Police Department Santa’s Helpers Program; $50 for Thanksgiving dinner at St. John’s; $50 Salvation Army; help sponsor senior boys’ breakfast; $100 each, total of $300, to FBLA, FFA, and Alpha Epsilon Sigma sorority for helping at the bazaar.
At Christmas the sorority group donates nonperishable food items to the food pantry. They will soon start on their Christmas project.
There will be a ball game on Friday evening this year, so setup will be after 10:30 p.m. Doors will be closed until 10:30 p.m. in the gym. Saturday morning doors open at 7:00 a.m.
Don’t forget the Memphis merchants. There will be a children’s matinee at the Memphis Theatre, doors opening at 1:00 p.m., with movie beginning at 1:30 p.m. Price of admission will be a nonperishable food item for the food pantry.
