MPD To Serve As Special Santa’s Helpers

When you think of Santa’s Elves, normally one pictures cute little guys with curly shoes and funny voices. However some of Santa’s Helpers in Memphis actually wear blue uniforms and come with handcuffs and badges.

The Memphis Police Department once again will serve as Santa’s Helpers, seeking to raise money for needy families in the community this holiday season. The MPD will be working in conjunction with the Division of Family Services to identify families and children in need of a helping hand to make this a special Christmas.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution to the program can call 465-2612, drop by the police office on the east side of the square or mail your donation to 112 S. Market, Memphis. MO 63555. The same contact list may be utilized to add children or families to the list for aid.

In past holiday seasons the Santa’s Helpers have lent a hand to St. Nick by visiting as many as 40 Scotland County kids, delivering special Christmas packages via police cruiser.

Project Coordinator Ki Reese said the program truly picks up momentum in December but added that benefactors make contributions all year long to help insure as many people as possible in Scotland County can enjoy the holidays.
