FRED CLARKSON McCUNE

Fred Clarkson McCune, 88, Downing, MO, passed away January 10, 2004, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.

A son of Oscar Dayton and Mary Alice (Clarkson) McCune, Fred Clarkson McCune, was born in Schuyler County, MO, on November 25, 1915.

He was united in marriage to Helen Jones on July 3, 1940.

He graduated from the Downing High School in 1933.

Surviving are his wife, Helen of Kirksville, MO; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Carl Reno of Ottumwa, IA and Karen and Larry Gardner of Kirksville, MO; five grandchildren and their spouses, Toni and Fred Moore, Kelly and Shannon Long, Carla and David Ogden, Lisa and Mark Hunter and Donna and Jeff Merideth; eight great-grandchildren, Preston Moore and wife, Amanda, Megan Long, Tanner Ogden, Tori Ogden, Colbi Hunter, Coltyn Hunter, Drew Merideth and Ryan Merideth; one great-great-grandson, Payton Moore; one step-great-granddaughter, Brooke Henage; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Dee McCune of Kirksville, MO; several cousins and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Charles Dawson; one great-granddaughter, Marissa Merideth and one son-in-law, Ronald Long.

He was a member of the Coffey Church, where he joined at an early age.

He and his wife owned and operated a grocery store in Downing, MO from 1940 through 1976 and also owned and operated a farm, where he raised cattle.

Funeral services were held January 12, 2004 at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, MO, with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Music was provided by organist, Betty Anderson and soloist, Cole Tippett. Pallbearers were Kelly Long, Preston Moore, Fred Moore, David Ogden, Mark Hunter and Jeff Merideth. Burial was in the Downing City Cemetery in Downing, MO. Memorials have been established for the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home.
