GILBERT HARR HUSTEAD
(11/11/1908 - 3/9/2004)



Gilbert Harr Hustead, 95, of Stronghurst, IL, died March 9, 2004, in the Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab Center in Stronghurst, IL. He was born November 11, 1908, in Wheatland, MO, the son of Edgar David and Temperance Harr Hustead. On May 15, 1930, he married Lucille Alexander in Memphis, MO. Mr. Hustead was an army veteran of World War II, having served in the invasion of Okinawa, and in the Philippines. He was raised in the Colony, MO community and had lived in Stronghurst the past 69 years. He was employed as a guard at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, IA, for many years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Stronghurst Community Senior Citizens and the Stronghurst Christian Church. Survivors include his wife; one son, Charles Hustead of Granite City, IL; six daughters, Darlene Tatge and her husband, Ralph, Joan Stamp and her husband, Ron, Betty Smith and her husband, Bob, and Judy Duncan and her husband, Howard, all of Stronghurst, IL, Isabel Livermore and her husband, Carroll of LaHarpe, IL, and Joyce McCarthy and her husband, Jerry of O’Fallon, IL; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; two sisters; and one great-grandson. Funeral services were held March 13, 2004 in the Stronghurst Christian Church with Armand Harpin officiating. Burial was in the Stronghurst Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Stronghurst Christian Church and the Community Senior Citizens. Banks and Beals Funeral Home, Stronghurst, IL was in charge of arrangements.
