PERSHING PETERSON
(10/2/1918 - 3/27/2004)



Pershing Peterson, 85, of Rutledge, Missouri, passed away March 27, 2004 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

He was born in Clark County, Missouri on October 2, 1918 the son of John Victor and Oda Dale Peterson.

On March 8, 1942 he was united in marriage to Wanda Tonnies.

Surviving are his wife Wanda Peterson of Rutledge, Missouri, one son Neil Benjamin Peterson and his wife Sarah of Huntsville, Missouri, one daughter Brenda Gooch and her husband Gary of Rutledge, Missouri, two grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Gooch of St. Louis, Missouri, and Justin Gooch and his wife Tiara of Dubuque, Iowa, one great grandchild, Jayce Gooch and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Jacob A. Peterson., Fred M. Peterson, John William Peterson, Charles Henry Peterson, two sisters, Jewel L. Price and Mary Agnes Mathena.

Mr. Peterson was a graduate of the Gorin High School and was engaged in farming most of his life near Colony, Missouri.

He was an avid sportsman and especially enjoyed hunting turkey and deer. He also enjoyed gardening and sharing the harvest with friends and neighbors and spending time visiting with the Rutledge Renegades group.

Pershing was a member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church and attended the New Testament Church in Rutledge, Missouri.

Funeral services were held March 30, 2004 at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. The Reverend Charles Hammack and Reverend Jim Brown officiated the services. Music was provided by Jim and LaMayra Brown.

Burial was in the Colony Cemetery in Colony, Missouri. Casket bearers were Leon Shaw, Milton Clary, Richard Peterson, Ronnie Peterson, Vernon Peterson, Kenny Peterson, Max Mathena, and Gene Mathena. Honorary bearers were Robert Becker and Scott Jansen.

Memorials in memory of Pershing Peterson may be made to the New Testament Church in Rutledge, Missouri. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Edina, Missouri 63637.
