BETTY LOU HICKS
(2/14/1927 - 4/12/2004)



Betty Lou Hicks, 77, of Columbia, MO and formerly of Memphis, MO, died April 12, 2004, at St. Anthony Hospital in St. Louis, MO, while visiting her daughter, Bonnie Helmig of Imperial, MO.

She was born February 14, 1927, in Fremont, IA to Myrl and Reva Marie Waltman Moore.

She was married to Earl Clark Hicks on April 25, 1949. He died October 8, 1965.

She was a domestic housekeeper in the Memphis area until her retirement in 1995.

She is survived by two daughters, Sherry Elaine Walker and husband, Ronny of Columbia, MO, Bonnie Gayle Helmig and husband, Bert of Imperial, MO; a son, Ben Lewis Hicks and friend, Susan Black of Palatine, IL; a grandson, Ryan Hicks of Imperial, MO; four step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Dorothy Hait of Indianola, IA, Beverly Downard and husband, Rex of Waukee, IA, Bonnie Hait and husband, Don of Shawnee Mission, KS, Shirley Moore of Oskaloosa, IA; and three brothers, Robert Moore and wife, Leta of Dallas, IA, Frank Moore and wife, Irene of Arizona, and Dwight Moore and wife, Carol Ann of Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and five brothers, Myrl Moore, Jr., Harley Moore, Max Moore, Donald Moore, and Dickie Moore.

Funeral services were held April 16, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Memphis, MO with the Reverend Ernest Deatrick officiating. Ann Luther and Faye Humphrey accompanied Schelle Cooley, vocalist. Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO. Casket bearers were Gary Walker, Kenny Walker, Patrick Burke, J.W. Helmig, Cody Helmig, and Vernon Tippett. Honorary casket bearers were Danny Miller and Bill Atwater. Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO was in charge of arrangements.
