INA MAE LEWIS
(8/1/1933 – 4/30/2004)



Ina Mae Lewis, 70, of Kirksville, MO, formerly of Downing, MO, passed away April 30, 2004, at the Boone County Hospital in Columbia, MO.

The daughter of Leland Leroy and Faye (Poe) Jackson, she was born on August 1, 1933 in rural Downing, MO.

After graduation from the Downing High School, she was the owner of a restaurant on the west edge of Downing, MO. She was later united in marriage to Quentin Lewis in Downing, MO, on September 23, 1951 and to this union three sons were born, Jeff, Jay and John. Following her marriage to Quentin, they sold the restaurant and moved to the farm where they made their home up until the time of Quentin’s death.

Survivors include her three sons, Jeff and wife, Helen of Centralia, MO, Jay and wife, Jeanne of Wentzville, MO, and John of St. Louis, MO; three grandchildren, Josh, Sara and Julie Lewis; two step-grandchildren, Tommy and wife, Jenny Miller and Todd and wife, Kathy Miller; three step-great-grandchildren, Josh, Kayle and Justin Miller; two sisters, Clara Faye and husband, Bill Miller of Arizona City, AZ and Dottie and husband, Jim Wray of Macon, MO; sisters-in-law, Roberta Lucille Lewis of Tulsa, OK and Diane Kight of Memphis, MO; four aunts, Martha McConnell of Mt. Pleasant, IA; Mary Baxter of Downing, MO, Bina Lou Childress of Memphis, MO, and Wilma Lee Baxter of Greentop, MO, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Ina Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Quentin on March 23, 1999; brother, Vernon Lee Jackson; two uncles, Vernie Jackson and Lloyd Jackson and one aunt, Lelia Pearl Jackson.

Ina Mae was an active member of the community and spent numerous years involved with the community betterment projects for Downing. She was a member of the Downing Christian Church, Women of the Moose Lodge #751 of Kirksville. Her love for the community and her devotion to her family was the joy of her life! Following the death of Quentin, she moved to Kirksville, MO, where she continued to be involved in numerous volunteer organizations. Ina Mae was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed.

Funeral services were held May 3, 2004 in the Downing Christian Church with Larry Smith, pastor of the church officiating. Organist, Duane Goff and soloist, Linda Hale, provided the music. Pallbearers were Wayne McElroy, Curt Schmitter, Edward Lanham, Walter Ford, Jerry Duncan and Robert Gallagher. Honorary pallbearers were H. Middleton, Donnie Miller, Barrett Jones, Loweldene Fincher, Doug Ruth and Randy Redding. Flower bearers were Vicki Clark, Pam Weatherly, Roberta Anderson, and Millie Erwin.

A prayer service was held May 2, 2004 at the Downing Christian Church with Dennis Smith officiating and assisted by Larry Smith. Organist Betty Anderson and soloist, Schelle Cooley provided music. Memorials have been established for the Downing Fire Department. Burial was in the Downing City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Norman Funeral Home of Downing, MO.
