MARY MADELENE DUNCAN

Mary Madelene Duncan, 91, of Downing, MO, passed away June 28, 2004, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.

The daughter of Walter Scott and Hattie Jane (Robinson) Cook, she was born on April 15, 1913, in rural Downing, MO.

On March 28, 1934, in Downing, MO, she was united in marriage to Frank Raymond Duncan and to this union five children were born, Scott, Bob, Ruth Ann, and twins, Jean and Jerry.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond of the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, MO; her children, Scott Duncan and wife, Seena of Springfield, IL, Bob Duncan and wife, Leanna of Downing, MO, Ruth Ann Moots and husband, Francis of Brashear, MO, and twins, Jean Moots and husband, George of Hurdland, MO and Jerry Duncan and wife, Betty of Downing, MO; 12 grandchildren, Sherri Williamson, David Duncan, Randy Duncan, Steve Duncan, Mike Duncan, Deanna Shahan, Debbie Frazier, Jodi Moots, Jason Moots, Kevin Harrelson, Khris Gochenour and Brenda Miller; 21 great-grandchildren, Emily Williamson, Meghan Williamson, Lannie Rose Williamson, Justin Thrasher, Evan Duncan, Nichole Duncan, Eric Duncan, Heather Duncan, Mike Duncan, Jeremy Shahan, Christina Shahan, twins Karla Frazier and Kelli Frazier, Jacob Frazier, Tesha Hutchinson, Bradley Gregory, Amanda Harrelson, Craig Gochenour, Hannah Gochenour, Brianna Miller and Gabrielle Miller; two great-great-grandchildren, Sarah Beth Shahan and Wyatt Shahan.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Jeffrey Duncan and one great-grandson, Sven Harrelson.

Mary was a member of the Downing Christian Church of Downing, MO, and was a devoted homemaker and mother. Later, Mary worked at the Aldridge Nursing Home in Memphis, MO for approximately 15 years. Mary loved her children and grandchildren very much and enjoyed being with them. They spent many happy hours playing all kinds of games. She also enjoyed putting in a garden every spring.

Funeral services were held July 1, 2004, at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, MO with Larry Smith, pastor of the church officiating. Music was provided by organist, Betty Anderson and soloist, Schelle Cooley. Pallbearers were Randy Duncan, Steve Duncan, Mike Duncan, Kevin Harrelson, David Duncan and Jason Moots. Memorials have been established for the Downing Fire Department Building Fund. Burial was in the Downing City Cemetery, Downing, MO. Norman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
