Vincent J. Rourke, 74, of Bowie, AZ, formerly of Memphis, MO, passed away June 27, 2004 in the Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ.

The son of Vincent G. and Annie (Smith) Rourke, he was born on September 12, 1929 in Edina, MO. He attended the Baring schools and enjoyed playing basketball during his high school years.

On October 20, 1951, he was married to Mary Ann Louise Ahland in Kirksville, MO. She preceded him in death in 1988.

Vincent worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and was a farmer. He and Mary Ann Louise owned and operated the Baring Hotel and Lloyd’s Surplus in Burlington, Iowa. He had also worked for LaMont in Burlington, Iowa, and also operated a mobile concession stand for various factories.

Vincent enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially fishing, Morel mushroom hunting and gardening. But most of all he loved his grandchildren!

Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife.

Survivors include one son, Ron and wife Pam Rourke of Bowie, AZ; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Jamie, Jenna, Jessica, Ashley, Brandi, Torrie and Cassie; two great- great-grandchildren, Arion and Taylor; two sisters, Carolyn Sue Shoop of Eldon, MO and Thelma Marie Riekeberg of Kirksville, MO ; and one aunt, Beulah Stevens of Edina, MO.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 3, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. in the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis, MO with words of comfort spoken by Fritz Gerth. Serving as pallbearers were Darcy Shoop, Darold Riekeberg, Mike Ahland, Steven Shoop, Chris Riekeberg, and Rocky Riekeberg. Interment was in Greensburg Cemetery, Greensburg, MO, with military graveside rites provided by the Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial Post #4958 of Memphis.

Arrangements were handled by Gerth Funeral Service from their Memphis chapel.
