MAXINE ORTON

Maxine Orton, 84, of Memphis, MO, passed away July 7, 2004, at the Scotland County Care Center, Memphis, MO.

Maxine was born October 22, 1919, in Mt. Sterling, IA, the daughter of Fred and Virgil Wolfe Hamberg.

She married Eugene Orton on October 21, 1936, at the First Christian Church in Memphis, MO, and they had three children, Alberta, Bill and Fred.

Maxine and Eugene lived in the Azen, MO neighborhood until retirement when they moved to Memphis, MO. She spent her working life as a Home Health Nurse affiliated with the Scotland County Health Department. She accompanied her late husband, Eugene on many trail rides.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; and her parents.

She is survived by one daughter, Alberta Taylor and husband, Eston of Burlington, IA; two sons, Bill Orton and friend, Terry Jones of Arbela, MO, and Fred Orton and wife, Mary of Las Vegas, NV; one sister, Betty Swindle of Bloomfield, IA and her daughter, Marsha; one brother-in-law, Leo Orton of Memphis, MO; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Stott of Kahoka, MO; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family has suggested memorials to the Lawn Ridge Cemetery, and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held July 9, 2004, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Bro. Larry Smith officiating. Pallbearers were grandchildren. Vocalist was Jessica Erwin. Interment was in the Lawn Ridge Cemetery in northern Scotland County, MO.
