ZERITA FAYE MEEKS

Zerita Faye Meeks, 90, of Memphis, MO, died July 13, 2004, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.

She was born February 10, 1914, in Memphis, MO, to Elmer Milton and Addie Agnes Roberts Wright.

She attended school at Bible Grove, MO and was a member of the First Christian Church of Memphis, MO.

She married Perry R. Meeks in the First Christian Church parsonage in Memphis, MO on July 18, 1931, and to this union five children were born.

She was a housewife and served as treasurer for Scotland County, MO, for 16 years prior to retirement.

Zerita was a member of the Colony Lodge OES #258 and served as Worthy Matron as well as having received her 50-year pin in 2004. She was also a member of the Willing Workers Club at Greensburg and particularly enjoyed participating in the activities of her church.

She is survived by a son, Perry Meeks and his wife, Ruth of Carlsbad, CA, and three daughters, Jewel Skelton and her husband, Ed of Milton, IA; Nancy Barnes and her husband, Gerald of Edina, MO, and Virginia Meeks of Memphis, MO; a daughter-in-law, Donna Meeks of Memphis, MO; 12 grandchildren, Cathy Campbell and her husband, Paul, Doug Meeks and his wife, Jan, Holly Harris and her husband, Chris, David Bechtel, Anthony Meeks and his wife, Steffanie, Suzanne Thorson and her husband, Mark, Matthew Meeks, Elizabeth Meeks, Stephanie Meeks, Brenda Strange, Jimmy Barnes and his wife, Sharon, Richard Barnes and his wife, Thersa; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Andy Wright of Baring, MO; three sisters, Aldra Shultz of Memphis, MO, Muriel Blaine and her husband, Millard of Baring, MO, Opal Emel and her husband, Elton of Memphis, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Hollis Meeks; a great-grandson, Lucas Campbell; a sister, Lila Dennison; and two brothers, Floyd Wright and Wayne Wright.

Eastern Star services were held July 16, 2004, at Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO.

Memorials may be made to the Christian Women Workers or to the OATS Bus and may be left at or mailed to the Memphis Funeral Home, 378 South Market Street, Memphis, MO 63555-1461.

Funeral services were held July 17, 2004, at the Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, MO, with the Brother Jack Sumption officiating. Music was provided by pianist, Melissa Miller and vocalists, Angela Westhoff, and Alisa Kigar. Burial followed in the Greensburg Cemetery in Greensburg, MO. Casket bearers were Paul Campbell, Chris Harris, Doug Meeks, Jimmy Barnes, Richard Barnes, Ethan Wright, Brock Meeks, and Lance Campbell. Honorary bearers were Don Norton, Roger Riebel, Joel Kapfer, Carl Kapfer, and Bill McRobert.

Services were under the direction of Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, MO.
