BYRON R. “BARNEY” DRUMMOND
(8/29/1924 – 8/14/2004)



Byron R. “Barney” Drummond, 79, of Memphis, MO, passed away on August 14, 2004, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.

Barney was born on August 29, 1924, on a farm north of Memphis, MO, the son of Harry M. and Emma Adams Drummond.

He married Audrey Montgomery on May 12, 1957, at the First Christian Church in Memphis, MO, and to this union two children were born.

Barney attended grade school at Elm Grove north of Memphis, MO, and graduated from Memphis High School in 1943. After graduation he entered the Army in December 1943 to March 1946. After the services he went to work for Gerth and Baskett and Payne Gerth of a combination of 47 years. In 1993 he went to work for Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, and worked for them until his health declined.

Barney enjoyed bird and deer hunting. He also liked to deal and trade guns. He frequently made his rounds around town and seldom missed local auctions. Barney was a member of the Wallace W. Gillespie V.F.W. Post #4958, Memphis, MO and Memphis Lodge #16, A.F. & A.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one stillborn son; two brothers: Harold and Ora; three sisters: Mary, Mabel, and Flossie; one niece and one nephew.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey of 47 years, of Memphis, MO; one son, Kelly Drummond and his wife, Carol of Barnhart, MO; one daughter, Karla Rainey and her husband, Doug of Memphis, MO; two granddaughters, Crystal and Amy Drummond of Barnhart, MO; one brother, Harry Dale Drummond of Mt. Vernon, MO; three sisters-in-law, Mary Drummond of Conway, MO, Hazel Drummond of Santa Fe Spring, CA, and Lucille Montgomery of Memphis, MO, along with several nieces and nephews.

The family has suggested memorials to the V.F.W. and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 19, 2004, 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 20, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Music will be by Ann Luther, organist, and Angela Westhoff, soloist. Pallbearers will be the V.F.W. Honorary bearers will be Brad Drummond, Darren Drummond, Mark Drummond, Dean Beckert, Larry Riney, David Long, and Joel Kapfer. Wallace W. Gillespie V.F.W. Post #4958, Memphis, MO will conduct military graveside services. Interment will be in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO.
