Venita Jean Green passed away August 21, 2004, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.

She was born January 2, 1930 in Granger, MO, the daughter of Okley and Jennie (Cravens) Lancaster.

When very young, her parents moved to a farm northwest of Memphis, MO, where she grew up and attended Friendship School. After graduating from Memphis High School, Jean returned to teach at Friendship School.

She was married to Wilford L. Childress on June 1, 1948. After Wilford’s death on March 25, 1960, Jean attended and graduated with a Masters Degree from Northeast Missouri State University. She taught at Lincoln School in Keokuk, IA, for six years. On June 14, 1970, she was married to Charles B. Green. They lived on a farm southeast of Downing, MO, before moving to the Memphis area.

Jean is survived by her husband, Charles B. Green of Memphis, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her first husband, Wilford L. Childress.

Funeral services were held August 25, 2004, at the Norman Funeral Home in Downing, MO, with David Barton, pastor of the Downing Baptist Church officiating. Organist was Betty Anderson. Pallbearers were Ed Elder, Jim McClintic, Phil Duley, Henry Blessing II, Randy Garnett, and Mitchell Pence. Memorials have been established for the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO. Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery in Memphis, MO.
